Fresh Oranges: Open Casting Call for RHOOC

excerpt from the Orange County Register

Are you ready to be a "Real Housewife of Orange County"?

Buoyed by the success of its recently concluded fourth season, "The Real Housewives of Orange County" is holding an open casting call for next season on April 2 at South Coast Plaza.

Producers for the popular Bravo reality TV series will meet with aspiring "housewives" from 5-8 p.m. at the rotunda in front of Macy's, 3333 Bristol St., Costa Mesa.

According to the official flier, the casting producers are looking for "fabulous women and their families to be featured in the next season of the series."

"We are looking for outgoing, exciting, strong, focused women who reside in South Orange County and want to share their lives with us," the flyer states. "We are looking for women who are 'Housewives' in the present-day sense. They should be lively and energetic, with defined opinions and views. The women will have busy lives, involvement with the community, strong work ethic, an active social calendar and an enjoyment of the good life."

Kathleen French, executive producer of the series, said Bravo hasn't given the official green light for a season five yet. But the producers and cable network are encouraged by the success of season four, and will be "testing the waters" at this casting call to start meeting different people.

There has been no decision yet on who from season four will stay and who might get replaced, French said.

"I think there's a lot more story to tell," she said. "This open call is us being proactive."

The Feb. 24 reunion special of "The Real  Housewives of Orange County “provided record-breaking numbers, with 2.2 million total viewers and 1.6 million in the 18-49 age range, making it the highest-rated episode in series history.

Series creator and executive producer Scott Dunlop of Coto de Caza said he is "encouraged" and "hopeful" a season five will get approved.

The future for one cast member could potentially be in doubt. Gretchen Rossi , whose engagement to the ailing Jeff Beitzel was a central part of her storyline, has hit some snags with information surfacing post-show that appears to contradict her narrative.

Plus, she has obtained a temporary restraining order against a former friend and is now dating Slade Smiley, who appeared in season one and has now dated three of the "housewives" on the show.

"It's become the central post-season story," French acknowledged. "It raises suspicions. It does with me too."

However, French said neither she nor Bravo make it a practice to comment on the cast's personal lives when it's outside the show.

Meanwhile, the search appears to be on for the next Orange County housewife, or housewives.

"Are you the next Real Housewife of Orange County?" the official casting flier asks. "We love women who are self-confident and happy with who they are. The women, their significant others and families must be open to sharing their experiences with the producers and the television audience."

Those who are unable to make the casting call can e-mail their name, age, biographical information, place of residence, photos and contact phone number to RealHousewivesOC@gmail.com.
